In this programme, Moshe Morad visits the childhood home of Jesus: Nazareth, meeting members of the Joubran musical dynasty, visiting their oud factory and meeting the Nazareth Arabic orchestra. The broadcast includes recordings of the Joubran family playing the oud, and, from the 2008 Jerusalem Oud Festival, of Nazareth-born Dalal Abu Amana, who performs her songs in a special Palestinian dialect unique to Galilee.
The music is extraordinarily beautiful in a contemplative way, and draws the listener in slowly and inexorably (as though one is being “tuned”). I was left with a yearning to explore this music further. The programme can be listened to for the next 5 days by following this link:
